It was a brilliant lead up to Ft William for GT Factory Racing this past weekend with a win for Rachel and some great finishes by Gee and Marc. Here’s a quick recap of the British Downhill Series third round.
“The sun shone on Innerleithen this weekend. The race field was stacked with World Cup riders in the final dress rehearsal for WC1 in Fort William later this week, the track was dusty and the pace was FAST.
For Saturday’s seeding runs the track was generally fast flowing, slightly greasy up in the top section but with little to separate the field. The team rode well with Rach seeding first with a time of 2:51.699 Gee seeding 3rd , Marc seeding 4th and Taylor also seeding 4th in the Juniors under strict instructions to hold something back for the Finals!
On race day the going got drier with the track dusty in parts. Taylor was first up and raced super quickly posting the 2nd fastest Junior split of the day but a momentary lapse of concentration in the lower third of the course caused him to crash. He wasn’t seriously hurt and he managed to salvage 5th place.
Taylor said “ I made a mistake and I went down hard. I’m just glad to be in one piece.”
Rachel rode strong taking the win easily with two seconds up on Manon Carpenter. Rachel said “Everybody was pinned. The fast was so fast and loose, the trees section was wiggly, it felt like I was going 100 mph the whole way! I’m so stoked to be back on it, big thanks to the team for getting me sorted after that Sea Otter crash”
Gee was also super quick. He posted the fastest split of the day but a small mistake coming into the lower section more than likely cost him first place as he lost 1.5 seconds to Adam Brayton across the lower piece. He finished just 0.48 seconds back from Brayton on the two-and-a-half minute track with Lewis Buchanan less than half a second behind Gee.
Gee said “I’m pleased with the second. In such a tight race. The track was super-technical and super-fast, the key to the weekend was learn fast , ride fast straight away. It was a great weekend and good
practice for Fort William.”
The second fastest split time was posted by team-mate Marc Beaumont but Marc also lost time in the bottom section to drop back into 7th place.
Team Director Dan Brown said “ The riders are all continuing to come up top form. We can’t wait to get stuck in to Fort William.”
